We all have that coworker with the annoying ringtone. And of course it goes without saying that they get lots of calls every day.
At first you try to be nice, making the occasional joke or dropping a hint about how maybe not everyone thinks that song is so great, especially in 20 second clips 15 times a day. But if they do turn it to vibrate, they forget and it’s back on the next day. After all, they like that song, they paid for it, so they are going to listen to it.
So then you move to phase two— no more jokes, this really irritates everyone. Everyone else chimes in that yes, they too hate it. OK, now they really will make an effort to keep it on vibrate when they are in the office. Oh, and while you’re at it, please take your phone with you when you’re not at your desk. Nothing is worse than when everyone is forced to hear your ringtone but you.
A few days go by and they have kept it off, but after a weekend, there it is again. That stupid salsa clip every time her husband calls! and he calls a lot.
So how do we break them once and for all? I propose the Ringtone Jar. It’s like the swear jar— if we hear your ringtone in the office, you put a dollar in. After $10 or so dollars, I’ll bet they remember to put it on vibrate when they walk in the office.
If you agree, reblog, retweet, heart, dig, Facebook, or otherwise spread the word in whatever way suits you.
Oh, and where does the money from the jar go? I think the best use is to wait until it’s enough to pay for a hitman to execute the most hated person in the office. That should help keep the other fools in line. Or I suppose you could buy donuts for the Monday status meeting.
